Unique identifier Mus.Box.250
Description Edinburgh King's Theatre: Box 1 (1907-1937)
Collection of ca. 150 miscellaneous programmes from the Edinburgh King's Theatre (1907-37, but with several large breaks in the run). Programmes from 1907-1910 are mainly variety shows of dance, music and comedy, with ca. 12 different performers in every show. Programmes from 1919 are usually one group or individual per performance, with opera, pantomime, operetta, ballet, musicals, band music, and plays with music. From 1930, the programmes for plays with music list the musical programmes, many directed by A. Douglas Willcox and played by the King's Orchestra (sometimes called the King's Theatre Orchestra) or King's Quartette. There are also a few newspaper cuttings about particular performances and a leaflet with handwritten notes inserted into one programme.
