Description
A collection of 23 programmes from the 1820’s, for the University (of Oxford) Musical Festivals and the Birmingham Musical Festivals, bound together in a single volume. Each programme is approximately 15-20 pages long and some programmes also include annotations. The programmes for both festivals, consist of a cover page with the concert details, a programme of works to be performed during the concert, the names of any soloists performing, and a list of words for pieces of vocal music. Any additional details are included in the descriptions below. The volume was donated by Martin Jones of Reading, in 2022.
Inside the front cover of the volume and moving onto an additional page, are a list of handwritten accounts for the 1827 University Musical Festival on June 26th, 27th, and 28th. The accounts include the expenses and receipts, the largest part of which details the individual payments for all 126 performers of music. A handwritten page at the back of the volume, on one side details the account of ladies’ ticket distribution doe admission to the theatre on June 27, 1820. The reverse side of this page details the basic accounts for the Cambridge Musical Festival 1820.
