Collection Description

Collection name Welsh Provinces: Newport (1883-1952)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of five programmes from Newport, from 1883 to 1952. The programmes are from the Victoria Hall and the Central Hall. Though the programmes do not explicitly specify which location within the United Kingdom "Newport" is located, the fact that these concert venues were extant in Newport, Wales, at the time of the concerts has been used to assume these programmes are from Newport, Monmouthshire - see separate record for Newport, Isle of Wight.

The earliest programme in the collection is from a concert given in the Victoria Hall, on 26 January 1883. The concert was entitled "Ballad Concert", and chiefly consisted of solo vocal items, with a small number of vocal quartets, violin solo items and piano solo items.

The rest of the collection dates from 1940 onwards, and consists of programmes from orchestral concerts. These include concerts given by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
