Unique identifier
Description A collection of one programme book from the Wagner Festival, 1877. The festival took place at the Royal Albert Hall in May 1877, and was conducted by Wagner. The festival contained orchestral and sung extracts from Wagner’s operas, as well as marches written by the composer. The programme book contains details for six concerts, given on May 7th, 9th, 12th (afternoon), 14th, 16th and 19th (afternoon). The programme book lists the names of the leader, rehearsal conductors, vocalists (taken from the Bayreuth Festival) and an orchestra list. Each programme within the book gives details of the music performed at each concert: this includes background about the music for non-operatic pieces, synopses for operatic extracts (excepting items taken from Der Ring des Nieblungen), German words as well as their English translation and musical examples. The programme book was published in London by Hodge and Essex.
