Description One volume of programmes from the National Symphony Orchestra, from 1920 to 1921. The volume is entitled “Notes on the Programmes of the National Symphony Orchestra (Season 1920-21) by Lawrence Gilman”. The volume also contains press cuttings and an item of correspondence.

The programmes are from the second season of concerts, and the programmes indicate that each concert was given twice. The programmes date from October 1920 to early May 1921 – the concert on April 29th/May 3rd was the last concert of the season. The concerts were given at Carnegie Hall.
The programmes are from orchestral concerts given by the National Symphony Orchestra, which was formerly known as the “New Symphony Orchestra”. The concerts were largely conducted by Artur Bodanzky and Willem Mengelberg, with one programme in the collection from a concert conducted by Erno Dohnanyi. The programmes indicate that each concert was given twice. The programmes contain programme notes written by Lawrence Gilman, as well as orchestral lists. There is a list of music played in the season, arranged by composer, at the end of the last programme. This contains a brief annotation.
