Collection name McCann Collection: Miscellaneous (1963-1968)

Description One scrapbook of programmes from 1963 to 1968. The programmes are largely from orchestral concerts. There are also a few programmes from vocal concerts including “Songs from the Shows”, a choir concerts, madrigal concerts and a vocal/instrumental ensemble.

The majority of orchestral programmes are from concerts given by the British Concert Orchestra. Conductors included the following: Vilem Tausky, Norman McCann (a late substitution for Tausky on 2/10/1966, in Torquay), Stanford Robinson, Neil Feiling, Maurice Miles, John Matheson and Marius Dods.

There are also programmes from concerts given by the following ensembles: Dunav Balkan Group of Musicians, Rumanian Madrigal Choir (a leaflet from their tour of Wales, 1967), Prague Chamber Orchestra (two leaflets and programmes from their tour of Wales, 1963), Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philomusica of London, New Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Morriston Orpheus Choir and the band of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, Court Ensemble [chamber/Baroque group].

Programmes are from concerts given in the United Kingdom, at the following venues: Fairfield Hall, Croydon; Town Hall, Wembley; Pavilion, Hemel Hempstead; Music Hall, Shrewsbury; De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea; Town Hall, Loughborough; Parr Hall, Warrington; Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone; Battersea Town Hall [Lavender Hill]; Lewisham Concert Hall; Princess Theatre, Torquay; Llantarnam School Hall; Congress Theatre, Eastbourne; King’s Hall, Derby; Ealing Town Hall; Queen Elizabeth Room, Agriculture House, Knightsbridge; Guildhall, Portsmouth; Wigmore Hall.

There is one programme from the Harlow Festival, where the venue is unspecified. There is also a leaflet from the American and Canadian tour of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
