Description A collection of 2 boxes of programmes from the McCann Collection. The collection contains a programme from concerts given outside the United Kingdom and was collected by the concert agent Norman McCann (1920-1999).

Prague

Ceská filharmonie – 8 programmes
The programmes date from 1896 onwards, including programmes from the 1920s, 1930s and 1990s. The programmes from 1896 and the 1990s are from concerts given in the Rudolfinum; the 1920s and 1930s concerts were given in the Obecní dum.

Prague Spring Festival – 7 prospectuses, festival programmes, concert programmes and leaflets
The majority of material relates to the 1991 and 1992 festivals, with one programme from a concert held as part of the 1963 festival.

Other Prague festivals – 2 prospectuses
There are prospectuses from the “Prague Mozart Festival” (1991) and “FOK Festa” (1989).

There are also three prospectuses from concert seasons given by the orchestra “Symfonický orchestr hlavního mesta Prahy”.

These give details of concerts that were given in a variety of venues. There are two prospectuses from concert seasons given by the orchestra ““Symfonický orchestr a pevecký ceskoslovenského rozhlasu v Praze”. One of these seasons was given in the “Dvorákova sín”, in the Rudolfinum, Prague.

There is an English-language leaflet giving details of concerts given by the Prague Symphony Orchestra. These took place in a variety of venues in Prague.

Brno

Janáckova akademie múzických umení v Brne [JAMU] – 17 programmes
The majority of these concerts took place in either the Besední dum or Koncertní Sál JAMU.

Konzervator v Brne – 8 programmes
The programmes date from concert given from 1970 to 1990. The majority of concerts were given in Koncertní sál Konzervatore. The programme from 1970 is from a concert that took place in the Stadión.

Státní filharmonie Brno – 4 prospectuses; 2 programmes
The programmes and prospectuses date from the late 1980s and early 1990s. The concerts took place at a number of venues, including the Janáckovo divadlo, Mahenovo divadlo and Bílý dum.

Mezinárodní hudební festival Brno/Brno International Music Festival – 19 programmes and prospectuses
The material relates to various festivals, from the 1980s and 1990s.

Brno venues:
Dum Armády; Janáckovo divadlo; Mahenovo divadlo; Stadión; Park kultury a oddechu (3 – sometimes abbreviated to “PKO”); Aula Filosofické fakulty (3); Besední dum.
There is a prospectus from performances given in various theatres and a dance hall in Brne. This includes some concerts. In addition, there are two programmes where the venue is not specified, but the concert has been organised by a Brno-based organisation.

Bratislava

Slovenská filharmónia – 9 programmes; 1 prospectus
The collection contains nine programmes from the 1960s, from concerts that took place in Bratislava. The collection also contains a prospectus from the 1992/1993 season, which gives details of concerts given in the Koncertná sien SF” – this venue is also called the “Reduta”.

Bratislavské hudobné slávnosti – 9 festival programmes; 3 leaflets; 15 programmes
The festival name appears in many languages of most of the festival literature, including the English title “Bratislava Music Festival”. The collection contains festival programmes from 1966, 1979 and 1988-1992. In addition, there is a selection of individual concert programmes from the 1987 to 1990 festivals.

There is a programme from another festival held in Bratislava in 1991, entitled “Melos Etos”. This has the subtitle “International Festival of the 20th century Music” [sic] – this festival was later subtitled “International Festival of Contemporary Music”.

Košice [Slovakia]: Košická hudobná jar (=Košice Spring Music Festival) - 1 festival programme).

Štáta Filharmónia Košice - 1 prospectus; 1 programme
The programme and prospectus represent a number of venues, including the Dom Umenia [Košice].

Karlovy Vary [Czech Republic – also known as “Karlsbad”]: Koncertní sín A. Dvoráka (2).

Zlín/Gottwaldov [Czech Republic]: Filharmonie Bohuslava Martinu (2 prospectuses). [“Zlín” was renamed Gottwaldov from 1949 to 1990]. The venue of concerts is unknown.

Ostrava [Czech Republic]: Konzervator v Ostrave – 9 programmes
These programmes are from the 1960s. The concerts took place at a variety of venues: Divadlo Petra Bezruce; Aula Pedagogické fakulty (4); Cerná Louka, Hala P (2); Koncertní sál na Cerné Louce; Dum kultury VŽKG (2).

In addition, there are other programmes from the following venues: Dum kultury VŽKG, Ostrava; Dum umení; Dum kultury pracujících, Divadelní; Hudební studio;

There is also a programme from Ostrava-Vítkovice, a suburb of Ostrava. This is from the “Sál Lidové školy umení”.

Luhacovice [Czech Republic]: There is one leaflet from a Janácek festival held in 1964, as well as a programme from a concert held in the Lázenské divadlo. There is also a general leaflet about the spa town.

Pieštany [Slovakia]: Pieštanský Festival – 2 festival programmes; 2 programmes.

Vranov [Slovakia] Vranovská hudobná jar (1 prospectus; a spring musical festival featuring solo recitals, chamber music and orchestra concerts in a variety of venues).

Žilna [Slovakia]: One prospectus for concerts in a variety of venues.

Orlová [Czech Republic]: Dum osvety.

Plzen [Czech Republic]: Velký sál Odborového domu; Park kultury a oddechu

There are four prospectuses from multi-venue tours, or festivals which straddle more than one town or city.

There is a programme from a venue entitled “Farská zahrada” [Rectory garden] where the geographic location has not been specified.
