Description
A collection of programmes from London theatres beginning "Sa" to "Sc". The collection also contains a few newspaper cuttings, in particular from the opening run of "Candide" (Bernstein) at the Saville theatre.
Concerts:
There are a couple of concert programmes from the Scala Theatre.
Staged:
There is a significant amount of programmes from performances at the Scala theatre: these are chiefly from performances of opera, with some dance performances, and largely date from the 1950s. There is a substantial amount of programmes from the Savoy Theatre, dating from 1881 to 2002. This collection includes some significant programmes from early performances of works by Gilbert and Sullivan: there are programmes from the opening run of Yeoman of the Guard (1889), a special programme from the 250th performance of Patience (1881, during the opening run) and a programme from the first revival of Mikado (1888). There is also a programme from the original run of The Emerald Isle (1901).
