Collection Description
Collection name
London: Music Clubs and Societies: Society of Women Musicians (1914-1951)
Unique identifier
Description
A collection of nine programmes from the Society of Women Musicians, from 1914 to 1951.
The concerts occasionally include a few items composed by members of the Society of Women Musicians. The concerts were largely given by women, though there are a few male performers listed in some programmes - chiefly from later programmes in the collection.
Though the venues of the concerts are not specified on most of the programmes, it is possible that the concerts took place at the premises of the society. The address of the society is variously given through the span of the collection as "27 Queen's Gate Gardens, SW", "92 Victoria Street, SW" and "74 Grosvenor Street". However, one programme specifies that the concert took place in the Great Drawing Room, 4, St. James's Square.
