Collection name London: Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith (1920-)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of programmes from the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. There is also one (undated) programme from the Lyric Opera House (the second name for the first theatrical building - the first building was reconstructed in 1895 and renamed the Lyric Theatre). The majority of programmes in the collection date from the 1920s and the 1950s. There are programmes from a variety of genres including music-theatre, operetta, opera and light opera. There is a significant amount of British opera within the collection. For example, there are programmes and reviews from performances of "Savitri" (Holst) in 1921. There are also many programmes from performances of Britten opera, in particular "Let's make an Opera" in 1951. The most prolific work performed in this collection is "The Beggar's Opera": there are many programmes of performances from 1920 to 1923, with other programmes from later revivals. The English Opera Group are responsible for a number of programmes from opera performances in the 1950s. There a few programmes from concerts in the collection, including concerts organised by the Hammersmith Sunday Concert Series.
