Description
A collection of programmes from the Lyceum Theatre, London. The earliest programme in the collection is an opera playbill from 1837. Though there are a few other nineteenth-century items, the bulk of the collection dates from 1919 onwards. The name of the theatre has variants including "Royal Lyceum" and "Theatre Royal, Lyceum". The collection consists of programmes from plays, opera, concerts and ballet. There are quite a few programmes from 1919 and 1929 from performances by Carl Rosa Opera. There is also a substantial amount of programmes from a season of Russian opera and ballet from 18/5/31 to 27/6/31: this season was given by Opera Russe a Paris, and was under the jurisdiction of Thomas Beecham. There is one concert programme in the collection from a performance of Hiwatha in 1936.
