Collection Description

Collection name London: Grotrian Hall (1925-1938)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of 102 programmes from the Grotrian Hall London. There is a separate record for programmes from the Steinway Hall, the earlier title of this concert hall. The Grotrian Hall collection consists chiefly of programmes, with a few press cuttings. The collection dates from 1925 to 1938 – the years that the hall was in existence – and includes a programme from the inaugural concert on 30/9/1925. The programmes are chiefly from recitals and chamber music concerts: there are also a few items from lectures and chamber orchestra concerts. A substantial amount of recital programmes are from song recitals, and there is a significant amount of piano recital programmes. Most programmes feature only one genre of music, though there are a few programmes of mixed genres from the 1920s.

Arrangement:
The programmes are arranged chronologically. Press cuttings are filed chronologically as part of the main programmes sequence.
