Description
A collection of programmes given at venues in the City of London. The venues include Livery companies, the London Guildhall and the Royal Exchange. The collection chiefly contains programmes from concerts; other items in the collection include programmes from plays, programmes and seating plans from dinners with musical entertainment and a small amount of press reviews. There are ca. 26 programmes from Goldsmiths Hall in the collection, dating from 1939 to 1979: these include concerts given by the City Music Society in the 1950s and 1970s. The collection as a whole also includes a significant amount of programmes from the Guildhall. In addition, there are a number of programmes from Drapers' Hall, Fishmongers' Hall and Merchant Taylors' Hall. The earliest programme in the collection is from a concert given at Drapers' Hall in 1856. However, the collection predominantly dates from the twentieth century. A variety of musical genres are represented in the collection including recitals, orchestral concerts and choral concerts.
