A collection of one box of programmes from St. Sepulchre’s Church, Holborn Viaduct, from 1933 to 2001. The full name of the church, which occasionally appears on items, is the “Church of St. Sepulchre without Newgate”. Some of the programmes are from events that took place in the Musician’s Chapel, which is located within the church. All the programmes in the collection date from post-1945; in addition, there is a parish newsletter from 1933.
A significant amount of programmes are from church services. These are largely either memorial services for recently deceased performing musicians, composers and musicologists, or services which formed part of the St. Cecilia's Festival. There are also some service sheets from events commemorating musicians, such as the unveiling of a window in dedication to Henry Wood. There are a number of programmes from “The Sir Henry Wood Promenade Concerts Annual Memorial Service” from the 1990s. Concert programmes are typically from choral concerts – usually featuring sacred music – though small orchestral performances and solo recitals are also represented. There are a number of programmes from choral concerts given by St. Thomas’s Hospital Musical Society in the 1950s and 1960s. The programmes from the 1970s contain a significant amount of programmes from concerts organised by Trinity College of Music. There are also a small amount of programmes from concerts given by the City of London Choir in the 1960s. These include a programme from the choir’s inaugural concert, which was given on the 7th December 1963.
