Collection Description

Collection name London: Churches: St. Bartholomew the Great, West Smithfield (1947-1999)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of one box of programmes from the Priory Church of St. Bartholomew the Great, West Smithfield, from 1947 to 1999.

The programmes are largely from concerts, though there are a few programmes from memorial services. The collection is almost exclusively from choral concerts until the 1970s; from 1970 onwards, other types of concerts – for instance, orchestral concerts and solo recitals – are represented in the collection. Programmes from concerts given by the London Bach Society dominate the collection in the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. These performances were often in tandem with the Riddick Orchestra, and usually featured cantatas by Bach or performances of one of the passions. There are a few leaflets from the St. Bartholomew’s Festival of Twentieth century music, from the 1970s.

The programmes are arranged chronologically.
