Collection name Henry Wood: Queen's Hall, Sunday Evening Concerts (1898-1899)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of one volume of programmes from Sunday Evening Concerts at the Queen's Hall, 1898 to 1899. The concerts took place at 7 pm on Sunday evenings. The season lasted from September to May, and concerts usually occurred every week. The majority of concerts featured the Queen’s Hall Choral Society. At the beginning of the season, they were frequently accompanied by the Queen's Hall Orchestra. As the season progressed, however, the choir were accompanied by various organists or occasionally by the Queen's Hall Wind Band. Henry Wood conducted the first few concerts in the season; subsequent concerts were largely conducted by George Riseley. The concerts were mainly choral concerts, including a number of large-scale oratorio performances.
