Unique identifier
Description
A collection of 19 programmes from the Bluecoat Chambers, Bluecoat Concert Hall and Bluecoat Hall from 1928 to 1972. The majority of programmes in the collection are from the 1920s and 1930s. The eighteenth-century building was originally constructed to house the Bluecoat School. The building became the Bluecoat Arts Centre in the late twentieth century. In the intervening period, it was described variously as the Bluecoat Chambers, Bluecoat Concert Hall, and Bluecoat Hall. Programmes which describe the venue as Bluecoat Chambers, specify that the concerts took place in the Concert Hall.
The programmes from 1928 to 1930 are largely from concerts given under the auspices of the Rodewald Concert Concert. These programmes are from chamber music concerts, the majority of which featured the Catterall String Quartet.
Other programmes in the collection represent a variety of concerts, including lieder recitals, choir concerts and a concert reading of an opera.
