Collection Description

Collection name English Provinces: Lancaster (1857)
Unique identifier
Description A collection of two programmes from Lancaster. One programme dates from 1857; the other does not specify the year that the concert took place (see below).

The collection contains a programme from the Lancaster Athenaeum from a concert given on 29 December 1857. The concert was entitled a "Dress Concert" and is described as being "… on the occasion of reopening the music hall after enlargement". The concert featured a performance of The Creation (Haydn), performed by various soloists and the Lancaster Choral Society.

There is also a programme from a concert given as part of the series "Lancaster University Concerts". The venue is presumed to be Lancaster University, and though the year is not specified on the programme it is likely to be 1983 - taken from information given in the forward to the programme.
