Description
A collection of 32 programmes and prospectuses from the Guildhall, from 1880 to 1967.
The first programme in the collection is from an event which took place on 3 Feburary 1880 by the Church of England Young Men's Society. The event included exhibitions, entertainments and musical items. The musical parts of the evening included part-songs, solo songs and instrumental music.
The remainder of the collection dates from 1912 onwards. A number of items in the collection are from concerts organised by the university, including programmes from the Cambridge University Music Club (CUMS). However, the collection includes a number of programmes from concerts organised by town-based societies, such as the Informal Music Club. The Guildhall hosted a number of visiting orchestras, ensembles and soloists.
