Description
A collection of 75 programmes from the Winter Gardens, from 1908 to 1976.
The majority of programmes are from orchestral concerts, but the collection includes programmes from recitals and choral concerts (with orchestral accompaniment).
The collection is dominated by programmes from two orchestras: the Municipal Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. The programmes from the Municipal Orchestra make up the majority of the collection in the early twentieth century, until the mid-1950s. The collection from 1955 onwards almost entirely consists of programmes from concerts given by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, though there are a few Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra programmes from earlier in the century. The choral concerts were largely given by the Bournemouth Municipal Choir.
The collection includes 14 programmes from the Bournemouth and Wessex Festival, from 1951. These are largely from concerts given by the Municipal Orchestra, Bournemouth, with some concerts also featuring the Bournemouth and Wessex Festival Choir. However, the collection also includes a programme from the Bournemouth School's Festival Concert, a few programmes from visiting London orchestras and programmes from recitals.
