Description
Wordbook for a Grand Selection of Sacred Music given at York Minster on 10 September 1835 as the third morning performance of the Fourth Yorkshire Musical Festival.
This was a two-part concert of sacred vocal music (solo and choral), including Handel, Dettingen Te Deum and a Sanctus by Dr Camidge.
The programme includes a list of the principal orchestral musicians, led by Mr Cramer and conducted by Mr Knyvett and Dr [John] Camidge, with choral direction by Mr [Matthew] Camidge.
Note: Mr Mori is listed as having conducted the evening concerts.
The following vocal soloists are cited: Mademoiselle Giulietta Grisi and Mrs Bishop; Miss Masson, Miss Clara Novello, Miss Postans, Miss Kemble and Mrs Knyvett; Mr Braham, Signor Lablache and Signor Rubini; and Mr Hawkins, Mr Bennett, Mr Machin and Mr H. Phillips.
This document includes a list of the Patrons for the Festival and carries a number of handwritten annotations. The latter offer very general comments on the standard of the performance.
