Description
The third and final envelope of biographical material relating to the conductor and composer William Leonard Reed (1910-2002), including handbills and programmes for performances involving Reed, either as composer or performer, given at various venues in London and the south east of England between 1942 and 1944.

15 July 1942, Royal Albert Hall: Bach-Handel Concert/BBC Promenade Concert (48th season), with Elsie Suddaby (vocal), Eda Kersey and Jean Pougnet (violin), Arthur Ackroyd and Richard Adeney (flutes), Michal Hambourg (piano) and G. D. Cunningham (organ) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Henry Wood, including the first performance of Reed, Scherzo for Orchestra (with Analytical Notes by Edwin Evans, 2 copies). Held with these documents are two copies of the prospectus, with programmes, for the season (featuring the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony conducted by Wood with Cameron and Sir Adrian Boult) and a press cutting with a review of the concert.
22 July 1942, Dulwich Central School at Mickleham: Festival of Song, given under the direction of Mrs Becker and including Reed, 'Youth Awake' from Songs of the Rising Tide.
12 June 1943, Emmanuel Congregational Church: Piano and Organ Recital by Reed (piano) and Ernest V. Phillips (organ/piano) (handbill, 4 copies).
18 August 1943, Royal Exchange: City Lunch-Time Concert, given by the National Fire Service String Quartet (William Hulson, Robert Lewin, Louis Rose and Willem de Mont) with William Reed (piano) (handbill).
22 January 1944, Dulwich Music Club: National Fire Service Quintet, including Reed, Pieces for String Quartet (with Analytical Notes by R. D. Holgate).
30 May 1944, Officers' Club, London Region Fire Headquarters: London Fire Forces Quintet for the Regional Fire Headquarters Social Club, including Reed, 'Dr Johnson's Suite' for String Quartet (handbill).

Collections Overview
Founded in 1883, the RCM Library primarily supports the performance, study and research of RCM members. It is also open to the public for reference and research. It contains some 300,000 items, including significant collections of early printed and manuscript material from the 16th to 19th centuries, given to the College upon its foundation, specifically the Libraries of the Sacred Harmonic Society and of the Concerts of Ancient Music. Donations since have included autographs of composers of international renown, amongst them Beethoven, Chopin, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert, as well as manuscripts and archives of major British composers. Although a British bias is apparent, the collection also has significant German and Italian manuscripts and early printed holdings. Later acquisitions of printed music include large quantities of out-of-print material, and sizeable collections of performance sets. Audio-visual holdings and the RCM's own sound archive's are also extensive.
