Description
A collection of 28 individual programmes with words for performances given at Merton College, University of Oxford from 1863 to 1864 and from 1883 to 1899, including an extended sequence of programmes for the Merton College Summer Concerts.
Where no other indication is given below, these concerts consisted principally of part-songs and choral repertory including glees and other works by native composers.
Miscellaneous concerts
21 January 1862, 14 January and 18 June 1863 and 13 January 1864: Madrigals, Part-Songs and Glees.
3 December 1883: Merton College Musical Society (two copies, one with ticket).
12 December 1885 and 10 December 1886: Shakespeare Concerts, conducted by John Farmer (with lists of the choral ensemble).
Merton College Summer Concerts
20 May 1884, 19 May 1885, 26 May 1887, 31 May 1888, 30 May 1889, 29 May 1890, 21 May 1891, 26 May 1892, 25 May 1893, 24 May 1894, 30 May 1895, 28 May 1896, 3 June 1897, 26 May 1898 and 25 May 1899: conducted by A. Herbert Brewer (1884-85), J. Varley Roberts (1887-90) and A. F. Kerry (1891-99). All programmes include lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles. From 1885 to 1889, the concerts included some extended orchestral works and the programmes include historical and analytical notes (with musical examples). There are two copies for the concert in 1885.
