Description
Programmes contained within historical documentations relating to two musical institutions in Italy.
1.
A historical account of the Music School in Turin, from its foundation in 1866 to the season 1890-91, compiled by Gaetano Foschini. This includes transcriptions of 33 programmes for performances given by the pupils of the school between 1871 and 1891. These programmes provide only very basic information regarding the composers, works and performers.
2. Programme for a performance given in March 1893 by the Istituto Musicale di Firenze, contained in a document entitled Accademia Storica di Musica Toscana.
This was a programme of Italian vocal music from the 14th through the 19th century, arranged chronologically. The performance was accompanied by an orchestra formed from the students and professors of the school, directed by Prof. C. Ceccherini. The choral direction came from Prof. E. Cagnola. Also listed is Prof. Carlo Munier (lute).
The programme is supplemented with extensive historical programme notes by Riccardo Gandolfi and facsimiles of three musical manuscripts.
