Description
A collection of programmes, with words, for four performances given at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden between 1807 and 1812, arranged chronologically as tracts 11, 19, 26 and 27 of a bound volume, which also contains wordbooks for the vocal/choral pieces included in various theatrical performances at the same venue.
These were three-part performances consisting, unless otherwise stated below, of predominantly English vocal and choral repertory, much of it by Handel.
All documents include a list of the orchestral/instrumental ensemble, led by Mr Ashley, and provide information regarding the vocal soloists engaged. All concerts featured Mr Bland, Mr Braham and Mr Bellamy: the remaining vocalists are listed below.
All programmes from 1810 onwards carry handwritten annotations. These identify changes to the printed programme and, in some cases, comment on the works performed.
