Collection Description

Collection name Strolling Players´ Amateur Orchestral Society (1894-95)
Unique identifier c.369. (1.)
Description A collection of programmes for four concerts given by the Strolling Players’ Amateur Orchestral Society at the Queen’s Hall, London on 3 May and 20 December 1894 and 9 May and 19 December 1895.

These were two-part orchestral concerts with vocal and instrumental solos in each half. Organ solos were given between the parts of the concerts on 20 December 1894 and 19 December 1895.

The programmes for all but the first of these concerts are prefaced by a document entitled 'Rules and List of Members'. This provides a list of the patrons and committee members, a copy of the Rules, a short history of the Society (est. 1882) and an inventory of the music library. These programmes also conclude with a list of the Society's members.

All programmes incorporate wordbooks, brief historical notes, a record of the vocal and instrumental soloists and a list of the orchestral ensemble, conducted by Norman Megone.
