Description A bound volume containing illustrations, portraits, newspaper cuttings, extracts from books and sale catalogues, advertisements, manuscripts and playbills, relating principally to the Shakespeare Jubilee of 1769, and in particular to David Garrick’s part therein, compiled by George Daniel.

This volume includes handbills which act as prospectuses for the Festivals of 1769 [?] and 1830 and which documented elements of musical performance.

Extended handbill for the Shakespeare Jubilee beginning on 6 September [1769] and taking place over three days. The first day included a performance of the oratorio Judith (at the church) and a Collection of New Songs, Ballads, Roundelays, Catches, Glees &c, in the Amphitheatre. The document is accompanied by a handwritten label which reads: 'The Original Jubilee Bill, of which I never saw another … This is from Garrick’s own collection'.

Extended handbill for the Second Commemorative Festival at Stratford-upon-Avon, in honour of the natal day of Shakespeare, the King’s adopted birthday, and the Festival of St. George, on 23 April 1830 and following days. The second day of this event incorporated a Grand Miscellaneous Concert, given in Shakespeare’s Hall, 'in which will be introduced several Original Pieces composed expressly for the occasion'.
