Description
A programme and wordbook for the State Reception of his Imperial Majesty the Shah and Grand Concert, given at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 23 June 1873.
The concert was in two-parts and consisted primarily of operatic excerpts. The entrance of the Royal Procession was accompanied by the Persian March and the second part of the performance began with an Ode in Honour of His Imperial Majesty the Shah, composed expressly for the occasion by Joseph Barnby.
This document begins with a list of Arrangements for the evening and provides the following information regarding the performers involved.
Vocal: Mademoiselle Titiens [Tietjens], Madame Trebelli-Bettini, Mr Sims Reeves and Signor Rota, with the Royal Albert Hall Choral Society.
Mr Barnby’s Exhibition Band with the bands of the First and Second Life Guards, Royal Horse Guards, Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Coldstream Guards, Scots Fusilier Guards, Rifle Brigade, Royal Marine Artillery, Royal Marines and Grenadier Guards.
Dr Stainer (organ) and Mr W.T. Best (solo organ), conducted by Mr Joseph Barnby.
