Unique identifier 7900.p.49
Description Programme, with words, for the St. Cecilia’s Day celebrations held by the Worshipful Company of Musicians on 22 November 1911 at the Hall of the Worshipful Company of Skinners.

This was a programme of predominantly English choral music, consisting of a Grace by William Byrd, a ‘Welcome’ song by John Blow, a Magnificat by Cornelio Verdonck, and an Ode to St. Cecilia by Maurice Greene.

The music was performed by Miss Gladys Honey, Miss Alice Hare, Miss Lily Fairney, Mr Roland Jackson and Mr George Baker (vocal), with Messrs John Saunders, Eugen Meier, H. Kinze and F. Grey (violin), Messrs Waldo Warner and E. Yonge (viola), Messrs C. Crabbe and P. Peruzzi (cello), Mr Claude Hobday (double bass), Messrs A. Foreman and Hinchcliffe (oboes) and Messrs Anderson and Goddard (trumpets), conducted by Mr Lennox Clayton.

This document includes some brief historical/descriptive notes on the works performed (signed by 'R.E.B.' and 'J.F.R.S.') and a historical note on the association between St Cecilia and music/musicians. A list of the Officers of the Company and two essays (entitled ‘The Guild of Minstrels in 1350’ and ‘Note on the Ordinances of the “Guild of Minstrels”) appear with photos of Maurice Greene and a pictorial representation of St. Cecilia.
