Description
A Souvenir Brochure, including programmes with words, for the three concerts of vocal and instrumental music by Schumann, given by the Classical Concert Society (formerly the Joachim Concerts Committee) at the Bechstein Hall, London on 13, 20 and 27 April 1910 to mark the centenary of the birth of Robert Schumann.
The programmes cite the following performers:
Piano (pupils of Madame Schumann): Mrs Carl Derenburg (Iona Eibenschutz), Miss Fanny Davies, Miss Mathilde Verne, Mr Leonard Borwick and Mr John St. Oswald Dykes.
Violin: Miss Marie Motto, Mr William Ackroyd, Mr Harold Bonarius and Mr Thomas Morris.
Viola: Mr Frank Bridge and Mr Ernest Tomlinson.
Cello: Mr Percy Such, Mr Ivor James, Mr Darbishire Jones and Mr Purcell-Jones.
Horn: Mr Oskar Borsdorf.
Vocal: Miss Rhoda von Glehn, Miss Edith McCullagh, Miss Helen Anderton, Mr Gervase Elwes and Mr George Henschel.
In addition to brief historical notes on the works performed (largely concerned with the dates/circumstances of the first performance), this document includes miscellaneous additional material regarding both Robert and Clara Schumann, including pictures and photographs and examples of correspondence. There is also a list of the Executive Committee of the Classical Concert Society.
