Description
Programme and wordbooks for three performances given during the course of the Grand Musical Festivals, organized by the Royal Society of Musicians and given on 31 May 1786 and 2 June 1787 at Westminster Abbey and on 16 May 1788 at the Pantheon Theatre, London.
All concerts were conducted by Joah Bates, with assistance from John Ashley.
The performances in 1786 and 1787 were three-part concerts of music by Handel, whilst that in 1788 was a two-part Selection of Music by Handel.
All programmes include lists of the Directors for the events, and of the Patrons/Subscribers to the Royal Society of Musicians. The programme for 1786 includes a list of the principal vocal and instrumental performers whilst that for 1787 carries lists of the choral and orchestral performers.
