Description
The programme and wordbook for a Grand Concert given by the Royal Society of Female Musicians on 5 June 1850 at the Hanover Square Rooms, London, conducted by Messrs Benedict and Sterndale Bennett.
This was a two-part miscellaneous concert, predominantly vocal but with orchestral music at the beginning of each act.
The programme provides detailed information regarding both the vocal and instrumental soloists.
Vocal: Miss Catherine Hayes, Madame F. Lablache, Miss M. Williams, Miss P. Horton, Miss Louisa Pyne, Mrs Noble, Miss Birch, Mdlle F. Rummel and Madame F. Nottes; Mr Sims Reeves, Mr Benson, Mr Barnby, Mr W.H. Seguin and M. Henri Drayton.
Instrumental: Charles Hallé (piano), Henry Blagrove (violin and leader) and Signor Piatti (cello).
The performance also featured an ensemble referred to as the Hungarian Vocalists.
The programme concludes with a list of the honorary subscribers and benefactors of the Society and contains some detailed information regarding its patrons and committee members. There is also a statement regarding its aims and aspirations.
