Collection name Royal Musical Festival (1834)

Description Programmes with words for the four performances given on 24, 26 and 28 June and 1 July 1834 as the Royal Musical Festival, held at Westminster Abbey and conducted by Sir George Smart.

Each programme includes a list of Patrons of the Festival and of the choral and orchestral ensembles. They also provide detailed information about the vocal and instrumental performers.

The second performance (26 June) included the first English performance of Mozart, Aria, Davide Penitente.

Collections Overview The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
