Description
A collection of 12 loose programmes for performances given at the Town Hall, Reading by the Reading Festival Chorus (est. 1945) with sections of the Reading Symphony Orchestra, 1945–50, held as the first of 7 envelopes of material relating to this organization.
Where no other indication is given, the performances were conducted by W. Ewart Masser. The vocal soloists are listed below.
7 April 1945: Handel, Messiah with Margaret Field-Hyde, Kathleen Ferrier, Eric Greene and Henry Cummings, conducted by Reginald Jacques (with brief note).
17 October 1945: Isobel Baillie with John Fry (additional conductor) (with notes).
11 December 1946: Handel, Messiah with Joan Taylor, Eileen Pilcher, Bradbridge White and Arthur Cranmer, conducted by Reginald Jacques (with notes).
2 April 1947: Bach, St. John Passion with Ada Alsop, Eric Greene, John Chamberlain, George Pizzey, George Bowles and Derek Clarke (with words).
