Description
A miscellaneous collection of ten programmes and wordbooks for Birmingham Private Concerts given at an unspecified venue between 1826 and 1845 (28th to 49th Subscriptions), arranged chronologically in a bound volume.
These were two-part concerts of vocal and instrumental solos/concertos, with orchestral overtures/symphonies at the beginning of each part. All concerts featured Mr Munden, either ‘at the piano’ or, in 1831 and from 1834, as ‘conductor’. In all but the final concert documented here, the performer cited as the violin soloist (see below) also took on the role of leader at the concert.
1 December 1826 (28th subscription): Miss Love, Miss Symonds and Signor de Begnis (vocal) with Mr Mori (violin).
20 November 1827 (29th subscription): Miss Fletcher, Miss Symonds and Mr Phillips (vocal), led by Mr Shargool.
21 December 1827 (29th subscription): Madame Puzzi and Mr Phillips (vocal), with Signor Puzzi (horn), Mr W. Lindley (cello) and Mr Mori (violin).
29 January 1830 (31st subscription): Miss Grant and Messrs Sapio and A. Sapio (vocal) with Mr Mori (violin).
11 March 1831 (34th subscription): Miss Riviere, Madame Stochausen and Signor Curioni (vocal), Monsieur Stockhausen (harp) and Mr Loder (violin).
28 February 1833 (36th subscription): Miss Inverarity, Miss Symonds, Mr Baker, Mr Parry, Mr Parry Jun. and Mr Pearsall (vocal) with Mr Weichsel (violin). A printed announcement records that Miss Inverarity had to be replaced by Miss C. Lyon.
27 February 1834 (37th subscription): Mrs Bishop, Mr H. Handel Gear and Mr Machin (vocal) with Mr Bochsa (harp) and Mr Mori (violin).
30 October 1835 (37th subscription [sic]): Miss Bildstein, Madame Stockhausen and Mr Parry Jun (vocal), Monsieur Stockhausen (harp) and Mr Mori (violin).
25 October 1836 (38th subscription): Miss Bruce, Mrs Bishop, Mr Pearsall and Mr Machin (vocal) and Mr Mori (violin).
30 December 1845 (49th subscription): the Misses Pyne, Mademoiselle Schloss and Signor Marras (vocal), Miss Day (piano) and Master Day (violin), led by Mr Shargool. The concert included the first performance of ‘Carnival de Venise’, arranged and performed by Miss Day and Master Day.
