Description A collection of programmes with words for seven Selections of Sacred Music, given as the annual benefit performance of the Philanthropic Society in the Chapel of the Philanthropic Society, St. George's Fields, Surrey on 8 July 1825, 15 June 1826, 17 May 1827, 29 May 1828, 21 May 1829, 5 May 1831 and 6 June 1833, held as the first part of a bound volume.

All concerts featured Sir George Smart (organ), with the following soloists:

Mr Braham (1827, 1828, 1829, 1831, 1833), Mr Horncastle (1827, 1828, 1829, 1831, 1833), Mr W. Knyvett (1831), Mr Philips (1825, 1826, 1827, 1828, 1829), Mr E. The programmes carry numerous annotations in Smart's hand. These comment on the following areas: timings (the start and finish of the performance and the length of individual pieces/sections), the standard of performance (appropriateness and execution); and the extent of the rehearsal provision (including which pieces were rehearsed when and by whom). There are also additional lists of choral singers and instrumental players, comments on the acquisition of the performance parts, and notes on any necessary alterations to the printed programmes (particularly those arising from the lateness or absence of the performers).

In addition to the concert programmes, this collection includes material concerning payments made to Sir George Smart (1831 and 1833), an historical account of the Society (founded in 1788) and a description of its aims. Included in this is a list of those involved in its organization (President, Committee, Visitors, Auditors etc.).
