Description
Programmes for three performances given by the Oxford Chamber Orchestra on 30 April and 14 May 1950 at the Town Hall, Oxford and on 29 May 1950 in Merton College Chapel. The concert in April marked the debut performance of the ensemble whilst those in May formed part of the Oxford Bach Commemoration Concerts.
Each programme includes words and notes. The items are pasted into a scrapbook and are accompanied by a number of press cuttings. There is also an additional poster and a list of the orchestral ensemble for the first performance.
The concerts featured additional performers as listed below:
30 April: Leon Goossens (oboe), conducted by H. K. Andrews and Gordon Jacob.
14 May: Ena Mitchell, Eric Greene and Ruth Carter, Eileen Pilcher and Thomas Hemsley (vocal) and the Oxford Harmonic Society, conducted by George Thewlis.
29 May: Church Cantatas, with Barbara Lyon, Harry Barnes, Joyce Sutton and Frank Green (vocal) and the Cantata Section of the Oxford Bach Choir, conducted by H. K. Andrews and Thomas Armstrong.
