Description
A bound volume containing programmes and wordbooks for oratorio concerts/Concerts of Ancient and Modern Music, given at the Royal Theatres of Covent Garden and Drury Lane between 1824 and 1830. Also, programmes and wordbooks for Mr [William] Hawes Concert (given at the Argyll Rooms in 1824) and for Royal Academy of Music/Royal Academic Concerts given at the Antient Concert Rooms, Hanover Square between 1825 and 1827.
All programmes provide detailed information regarding the vocal soloists engaged.
30 January, 31 March and 7 and 9 April 1824: programmes with words for the Oratorio Concerts nos. 1, 9, 11 and 12 given under the direction of Mr Bochsa at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (nos. 1, 9 and 11) and Covent Garden (no. 12), led by Mr Mori and conducted by Sir George Smart.
30 January: Handel, Messiah; the first English performance of Frederic Schneider, Day of Judgement; a Grand Miscellaneous Act.
31 March: Grand Selection of Ancient and Modern Music.
7 April: A Selection of Sacred Music.
9 April: Selection from Messiah; a Grand Selection; Miscellaneous Act.
22 February 1826, Theatre Royal Covent Garden: programme with words for Sir J. A. Stevenson, Thanksgiving (a new oratorio), led by Mr Mori and conducted by Sir George Smart.
[undated, 1825], Theatre Royal, Drury Lane: programme with words for Weber, Kampf und Sieg, oratorio in commemoration of the Battles of La Belle Alliance and Waterloo; a Grand Selection of Ancient and Modern Music, led by Mr T. Cooke and conducted by Mr H. R. Bishop.
7, 14, 21 and 28 March 1827, Theatre Royal, Covent Garden: programmes with words for four Concerts of Ancient and Modern Music, directed by H. R. Bishop.
30 January, 22 and 29 February and 5, 12, 19, 21 and 26 March 1828: programmes with words for eight Concerts of Ancient and Modern Music, given at Theatre Royal, Covent Garden (nos. 2, 3, and 7) and Drury Lane (nos. 1, 4-6 and 8). Certain of these programmes carry handwritten annotations, many of which concern the performance of encores.
30 January, 6, 13, 18, 20 and 27 March and 3, 8 and 10 April 1829, Theatre Royal, Covent Garden: programmes and wordbooks for the 12 Grand Performances of Antient and Modern Music given at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden under the direction of Mr Hawes (missing nos. 3, 7 and 9). A number of these programmes carry handwritten annotations, which record the performance of encores and offer various other comments.
30 January, 26 February, 5, 10, 12, 19, 24 and 26 March and 2 and 7 April 1830: programmes and wordbooks for the 13 Grand Performances of Sacred Music (missing nos. 3, 7 and 11) given alternately at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden and Drury Lane (alternately) under the direction of Mr Hawes.
30 April 1824, Argyll Rooms: programme and wordbook for Mr Hawes's Concert.
25 March 1825, 6 December 1826 and 20 December 1827, King's Antient Concert Rooms, Hanover Square: programmes and wordbooks for the Concerts given by the Pupils of the Royal Academy of Music.The programme for the first concert includes lists of the Officers of the organization, of the Students, Professors and Subscribers. There are also extensive annotations
8 May and 5 June 1826 and 26 March, 30 April, 14 May and 11 June 1827, Antient Concert Rooms, Hanover Square: programmes and wordbooks for the 4th and 6th Royal Academic Concerts of 1826 (conducted by Dr William Crotch) and nos. 2-4 and no. 6 of 1827 (conducted by Sir George Smart). All programmes include a list of the orchestral ensemble and some carry handwritten annotations. There are also lists of the subscribers for both seasons.

Collections Overview
The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
