Description
A collection of prospectuses, programmes and wordbooks for the Norfolk and Norwich Musical Festival nos. 12, 14 and 26, given at St. Andrew's Hall, Norwich in 1857, 1863 and 1899, held as three bound volumes (one per Festival).
All Festivals consisted of morning and evening performances, conducted by Mr Benedict (1857 and 1863) and Alberto Randegger (1899).
At least one programme from each Festival includes lists of the Patrons/Officers of the event, lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles, and a record of the vocal and instrumental soloists engaged (see below). For the 1899 season, this information is also included in the Prospectus.
Volume 1: 15-18 September 1857
Programmes and wordbooks for three morning and three evening performances. The programme for the first morning performance includes some historical and descriptive notes.
Madame Clara Novello, Mademoiselle Leonhardi, Madame Weiss and Mrs Lockey, Signor Gardoni, Signor Giuglini, Mr Lockey, Mr Miranda, Mr Weiss and Signor Belletti (vocal), led by Messrs Sainton and Henry Blagrove.

16 September: Spohr, God Thou Art Great; Mendelssohn, A Hymn of Praise; Mozart, Requiem.
17 September: Beethoven, The Mount of Olives; Haydn, The Seasons.
18 September: Handel, Messiah.
Evening:
15, 16 and 17 September: Grand Miscellaneous Concerts, the last including the first English performance of H. H. Pierson, Selections from the Music to the Second Part of Goethe's Faust.
Volume 2: 14-18 September 1863
Programmes and wordbooks for four morning and three evening performances. With the exception of that for 16 September, all programmes for the morning performances include the melody lines for certain sections of the works performed. The programme for the first evening concert includes some very brief historical notes.

Prospectus and programmes and wordbooks for the three morning and four evening performances. All programmes include Analytical Notes (with musical examples) by Joseph Bennett.

5 October: including, Elgar, Cycle of Songs, 'Sea Pictures' and Edward German, Symphonic Suite, 'The Seasons' (composed expressly for the Festival and conducted by the composer). Also, music by F. H. Cowen, conducted by him.
6 October: including S. Coleridge Taylor, Hiawatha's Wedding Feast (conducted by the composer).

Collections Overview
The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
