Collection Description

Collection name Newcastle-upon-Tyne Musical Festival (1909)
Unique identifier X.431/434
Description An incomplete set of programmes and wordbooks for the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Musical Festival of October 1909.

Information about these documents may be found in respect of the collection held at British Library shelfmark e.1388, which includes a complete set of programmes for this event.

The programme for the evening of 21 October 1909 held at this shelfmark contains some minor handwritten annotations which do not appear in the version held at e.1388. These comment largely on the performance of Clara Butt (vocal) but also suggest (through a crossing out) that a performance of Henry Hadley, Tone Poem, 'Salome', which the printed programme claims to have been given for the first time in England, had in fact been played before.
