Description
A largely complete sequence of programmes from the 25th season of the Monday Popular Concerts, given at St. James's Hall, London, 1882–83, under the direction of S. Arthur Chappell, arranged chronologically as a bound volume and also including a programme for the Saturday Popular Concert given on 27 January 1883.
This volume previously belonged to the Oxford University Musical Club and begins with a handwritten index of the instrumental works included in the Monday series.
Described as 'Programmes from the works of the Various Masters', these were two-part chamber music concerts, with some vocal and instrumental solos, accompanied by Mr Zerbini.
All programmes provide words and historical and analytical notes with musical examples. Many of the programmes also identify the number of times a work has previously been performed at the series.
Concert dates:
23 October, 6, 13, 20 and 27 November and 4, 11 and 18 December 1882.
29 January and 12 February 1883.
