Description An extended run of analytical programmes/wordbooks (with musical examples) for the Monday Popular Concerts given at St. James’s Hall, London between 1858 and 1904, including programmes from each of the first 44 seasons (except 1902-03).

From the sixteenth season the series incorporated the Saturday Popular Concerts, given at the same venue. From 1903, the concerts were given under the direction of Johann Kruse.

Note: although the first season of these concerts was given in 1858-59, the first programme held here dates from the 1859 portion of that run. The sequence is also wanting programmes for the seasons 1859-1863/64, 1867/68-1872/73, 1877/78, 1901/02 and 1903/04.

The collection consists of 70 bound volumes of programmes, divided as follows:
Seasons 1-16: one volume per season
Seasons 17-20: two volumes per season
Season 21: single volume
Seasons 22-43: two volumes per season
Seasons 44-46: 1901-04: a single volume including programmes from across this period.

There is also a separate parcel containing individual, unbound programmes from the Saturday Popular Concert on 30 January 1904 and the Monday Popular Concert on 21 March 1904, these being the 12th and 19th concerts of the 46th season.
