Description The programme and wordbook for a performance of Handel, The Messiah, given at the Foundling Hospital Schools, Berkhampstead on 10 June 1939 to mark the Bi-Centenary of the Foundling Hospital.

The performance was given by the St. Michael Singers with Isobel Baillie, Grace Bodey, Edward Reach and Keith Falkner (vocal) and the London Symphony Orchestra, led by W. H. Reed and conducted by Harold Darke.

The document begins with a list of the Patrons of the Foundling Hospital and there is a brief historical introduction to the Messiah (and its relationship with the Foundling). There is also a reproduction of an Invitation to a performance of Messiah, given on 1 May 1750 and Gerald Coke's ticket for the event.

Collections Overview The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
