Description
A box containing prospectuses for the Maryland Handel Festivals of 1981-87, 1990 and 1992 (nos. 1-7, 10 and 12). Also, a leaflet with programmes for the Festival of 1988 (2-6 November) and a separate wordbook for a performance of Handel, Tolomeo given between 11-14 April 1987.
All prospectuses include the programmes and wordbooks for the concerts given, with relevant historical notes: many also include a number of facsimile reproductions (of original wordbooks etc). There is also information regarding the master classes, lectures and seminar sessions held as part of the Festival, biographical notes on the performers/participants, and lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles engaged.
All Festivals included events given in the Memorial Chapel, Tawes Recital Hall (from 1983) and R. Lee Hornbake Library (except 1981) of the University of Maryland. The Whittall Pavilion of the Library of Congress was used between 1981 and 1986. Additional venues are listed below.
Inserted inside the prospectuses for the 1981 and 1982 Festivals are leaflets, with programmes, for the same event.

Tolomeo

Collections Overview
The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
