Description A folder of material relating to the broadcasting of the London Summer Concerts, given at the Aeolian Hall, Royal Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall, London, between 27 May and 11 June 1942, including the series prospectus, a complete set of typed handbills/single-sheet programmes and programmes with Analytical Notes (by Edwin Evans) for the concerts given at the Royal Albert Hall on 28 May and 4 June 1942.

The series was organized by the Royal Philharmonic Society in association with the BBC, the London Symphony Orchestra Concert Society and Messrs. Boosey and Hawkes.

The concerts for which analytical programmes are held were given by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Adrian Boult (May) and Henry Wood (June). Both programmes carry handwritten annotations which provide information about the publishers of the performance materials and record the timings of individual pieces given.

Collections Overview The BBC's Written Archives constitute the working papers of the organization from 1922 to the 1970s. They show in great detail how the BBC went about the task of making programmes, first for radio and later also for television. They detail the planning, production and content of these programmes, encompassing internal memoranda and minutes of meetings, financial records, correspondence with contributors, programmes records of various types, extensive press cuttings, audience reaction, concert programmes, publicity and publications. These detailed internal records are available for research from the beginning up to 1974.
