Description
The programme with words for a two-part concert of vocal and orchestral music, given at the Queen's Hall, London on 24 May 1911, forming part of the London Musical Festival.
The concert was given by the Queen's Hall Orchestra (conducted by Henry Wood) and included the first performances of the following works, each of which was conducted by the composer: H. Walford Davies, Short Suite in F, ‘Parthenia’; Elgar, Symphony No. 2; and Granville Bantock, Poem for Orchestra, ‘Dante and Beatrice’. Also, vocal solos by Monteverdi and Schubert, performed by Mme Julia Culp.
The programme includes historical and analytical notes (with musical examples) by Rosa Newmarch, a list of the orchestral ensemble, a photograph of Henry Wood and advertisements (with programmes) for the remaining performances in the Festival, to be given on 25, 26 and 27 May 1911.
