Description
A box of 17 loose programmes for performances of music by Handel, given by the London Choral Society between 1950 and 1968, directed by John Tobin. Also, an undated programme with notes for a performance of Handel, Acis and Galatea, given by the London Choral Society and the Philomusica of London at the Guildhall [no date]
The concert in 1950 was held at St. Paul's Cathedral. The remainder took place at the Royal Festival Hall.
Unless otherwise stated below, these performances consisted of Messiah, presented in an edition by Tobin. All programmes for these concerts include introductory notes by Tobin which focus largely on the supposed 'authenticity' of his edition and its performance.
With the exception of that for 1950, all programmes also include a photograph of the conductor.
These performances were given with the Tobin Chamber Orchestra (1950), Kalmar Chamber Orchestra (1952-56), the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1957), a section of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1958-61) and the Philomusica of London (1962-68).
The vocal soloists are listed below. The programmes also cite the principal/obligatto instrumental performers.

Collections Overview
The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
