Description
A collection of programmes and wordbooks for the fifth, sixth and tenth performances of the 34th season of London Ballad Concerts, given at the Queen's Hall, Langham Place on 20 January, 3 February and 31 March 1900, under the direction of Messrs. Boosey and Co.
These were concerts of solo and ensemble vocal music, accompanied by Mr S. Liddle and Mr F.A. Sewell, with occasional instrumental solos. Each programme includes a detailed advertisement for the next performance in the series (listing the performers but not the material to be performed) and an announcement of 'New Songs' published by Boosey and Co. The programmes also carry handwritten annotations, which provide information about those works receiving an encore.
20 January 1900: Westminster Singers (Mr George May, Mr Charles Ackerman, Mr Harper Kearton and Mr W.H. Brereton); Miss Louise Dale, Mr Andrew Black, Miss Ada Crossley, Mr Gregory Hast, Miss Evangeline Florence, Mr Plunket Greene, Miss Clara Butt, Mr Thomas Thomas and Miss Maggie Davies (vocal), and Miss Elsie Horne (piano).
3 February 1900: The Misses Bush, Mr Thomas Thomas, Miss Lillian Blauvelt, Mr Plunket Greene, Miss Ada Crossley, Miss Edith Nutter, Mr Joseph O’Mara, Miss Louise Dale and Mr H. Lane Wilson (vocal), with Mr William Henley (violin).
31 March 1900: The Westminster Singers (see above), Mr Jack Robertson, Miss Louise Dale, Mr Andrew Black, Miss Clara Butt, Mr Gregory Hast, Miss Evangeline Florence, Mr Plunket Greene and Mr H. Lane Wilson (vocal), with Mr William Henley (violin). This concert also included a recitation of ‘The Lady of Shalott' with violin, cello and piano accompaniment, performed by Mr Joseph Ivimey, Miss May Mukle and Miss A.V. Mukle.
