Collection name Leeds Musical Festival (1886, 1901, 1907)

Description Prospectuses, programmes and wordbooks for the Leeds Musical Festivals of 1886, 1901 and 1907, held as three bound volumes.

All Festivals consisted of morning and evening performances, given at the Town Hall, Leeds and conducted by Sir Arthur Sullivan (1886) and Charles V. Stanford (1901 and 1907).

All programmes begin with lists of the Patrons/Officers of the Festival, lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles, and records of the vocal soloists engaged (see below). Where one is held, this information is replicated in the Prospectus. All programmes also carry historical and analytical notes, with musical examples. Programme for 1886 and 1907 also carry a historical introduction to the Festival.


Volume 1: 13-16 October 1886

Collections Overview The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
