Description A prospectus for the twentieth season of the Highbury Philharmonic Society given at the Athenaeum, Highbury from 1897 to 1898, under the direction of G.H. Betjemann.

This document provides outlines of the following programmes:
23 November 1897: R.H. Walthew, Ode to a Nightingale (first performance). Also music by Dvorak and Clarisse Mallard.
18 January 1898: A. Somervell, Power of Sound (cantata, first performance). Also Weber, Preciosa.
1 March 1898: Handel, The Messiah.
3 May 1898: Berlioz, Faust.

The following performers are listed as being engaged for the season: Miss Clara Butt, Madame Rose Dafforne, Miss Nina Faliero, Madame Medora Henson, Madame Fanny Moody, Madame Ella Russell, Mr Andrew Black, Mr Ben Davies, Mr William Green, Mr Edward Lloyd, Mr Charles Manners, Mr Bantock Pierpoint and Mr Ranalow.

The document includes details of the terms of subscription for the four concerts, a list of committee members and a list of works previously performed by the Society.
